Local Girl Scouts Pilot Online Cookie Locator for 2008 Sales
Sales in Central Texas Begin January 19

Austin, Texas, January 9—In addition to being brought to patrons via traditional door-to-door residential sales, Girl Scout cookies can now be found by hungry consumers through an online booth locator. The Girl Scouts of Central Texas, which begins selling cookies on Saturday, January 19 at 9 a.m., is one of 16 councilsnationwide piloting the online locator this year.

Every year, service units and troops establish cookie booths in front of local businesses to bolster their sales. To aid the girls and their patrons, ABC Bakers, the official cookie baker for the Central Texas council, is working with the Girl Scouts of Central Texas to develop an online booth locator.

“Our council is excited and honored to pilot the booth locator for ABC,” says Faith Brown, Product Sales Director for the Girl Scouts of Central Texas. “We were chosen for our outstanding sales history as well as our innovative reputation and we’re very proud of that.”

Potential patrons can locate a cookie booth by following the link on the Girl Scouts of Central Texas home page, www.gsctx.org, and then searching by their zip code. The online locator will be available Friday, January 18, 2008, the day before sales begin.

“The online booth locator has the potential to significantly increase our sales and therefore increase and improve the programs we are able to offer girls,” says Etta Moore, CEO for the Girl Scouts of Central Texas. “The online locator is a smart business move, for both the cookie selling program and for our primary purpose: serving Central Texas girls.”

Girl Scout cookies can be purchased at a booth or from your local Girl Scout troop or member for $3.50 per box from January 19 to February 22, 2008. Proceeds directly benefit the Girl Scouts of Central Texas by providing funds for programs, financial aid, facilities, camps and more.
