If this isn't a happy room I don't know what is. And what you can't see in this pic is the mantle across the room (sorta behind where I am standing) has candles and some mirrors.
It sure is fun to decorate. Thank God Nate said he's not picky.

Mi Casa
This is my favorite room currently. Probably because its the only one I have finished. The kitchen is coming along and really is basically done but there's just junk in it still. My bedroom has furniture (yay!) but is still covered in the clothes I haven't hung yet. The living room has a couch and rug (yay!) but need something. Something I can't put my finger on. And the dining room is currently a collection of boxes and 1 air mattress. I'm getting there.
Slowly but surely.

Big Kid Now
Into the arena they file
caps and red gowns,
never go out of style
and the line went for a mile
famlies and friends
a speaker from comcast
the end of ends
it went pretty darn fast
i can now communicate
lots of cake to be ate
one heck of a 4 year fight
but poetry, i cannot write

Its a Tough Life
Really tough. I mean last weekend I was forced to stay at this awful hotel -- maybe you know it, the Ritz-Carlton. In NYC, It was rough man. (ok, not so rough) And then I bought some beautiful clothes at a little store called Ann Taylor, a small splurge. On Thursday I had lobster and steamers for lunch. As if that wasn't enough for one day, then Auntie Pam, AJ's auntie who I have adopted, gave me a pair of Tiffany's earrings for graduation. AND THEN we had Ben's graduation party -- surf and turf in the presidential suite of the Omni- Parker House. Well-stocked bar, a beautiful filet, 3 different desserts and a gorgeous setting. And last night we had a delicious dinner at Legal's, after the excellent champagne reception that is. Not to mention my beautiful new car waiting for me and my sweet new apartment. I am basically just floored by it all. Since when did this happen man? Oh right, the perks of graduating.
As I told Grandma, I know I'm not wealthy but it sorta seems like it lately! I could most definitely get used to this :)
...btw tomorrow's the day I walk across that stage. holy cow!

Can you play me a memory
Generally speaking, nobody likes Mondays. But my Monday yesterday, it wasn't all bad.
1. Pretty chill day at the office. And Roger's promised us a lunch out on Wednesday. yay!
2. Amazing dinner by Miss AJ -- it was just pasta but everything she makes is better
3. Jake Ivory's with AJ, Jess, and Megan. Holy guacamole. Jess is a karaoke queen. AJ is AJ and generally awesome. And why haven't I been barhopping with Megan more? This whole new not-a-Catholic-school-girl person comes out. I love the out at night Megan just as much as the daytime Megan!
4. 90s music. Who doesn't love 90s music? We even sang Fresh Prince of Bellaire while at Jake's!
5. Home for nachos and TV.
The livin's easy baby, easy.

The Big Apple
I'm done with college!!!
So then we sat at the pub for a number of hours and went out downtown to celebrate. It was a great day.
Saturday I down to NYC to see my family and for my cousin's graduation. He actually graduated from Pratt on Friday (Congrats!) but b/c of my exam I didn't make it down there til Saturday.
And I had an excellent lunch with Patrick. We had a blast! Lunch at some hole-in-the-wall where they don't speak English and then a short-ish walk to Union Square. Caught up on life, work, family, friends etc. Good kid that one.
The rest of the weekend was spent with my Grandma, uncle, aunt and her parents (Jay & Shirley, who I think are grand). The hotel room I shared with Grandma was amazing! It overlooked the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. We did dinner out and a Mother's Day brunch. No wild bar hopping in NYC but a very good weekend with Grandma. Actually pretty relaxing despite that I was in New York; I don't typically associate "relaxing" with New York.
And now its a couple more days in Corporate America the Boston version, some family time, graduation and hittin' the road for Tejas.
Cheers!

My Motivation
Studying is HARD when its 78 and sunny out. Its like pulling teeth, I'm tellin ya. But I have to do it so that I can graduate (in 11 days) and move to Austin.
Speaking of Austin, my lease starts Friday. I have my TiVo ordered and am ready to go. AND there's a fun little car waiting in Houston for me to drive it to Austin. Doesn't that sound like fun?? Once I get there, I get to be a girl and start nesting. Ikea and Target, here I come! All with the goal of having a pretty apartment put together by June 1 when my friends from home all come to visit. Its a crazy 3 weeks ahead of me!
But I have to study first. I have to, have to, have to. OK, I'm going to study. I swear. Women's history and I will be best friends. OK -- STUDYING!

El Island, Spanish for "the Island"
You gotta love boys who make THAT their party's slogan. Thought process: Our frat is Fiji. That's an island. The party is on Cinco de Mayo. Thats Spanish. YES! "El Island!"
Sun roof, steamers, steak, drinks and futons on which to sun oneself. Pretty darn good party if I do say so myself. I'd go back to Fiji, WPI style, any day.

Come to Boston for the Springtime
Boston is great. My friends are all here. Its sunny (knock on wood). Classes are over. Only fun is left to be had. The pub is open. Senior week will start soon.
Even though my campus may be based around a 6 lane highway with train tracks down the middle, we have a couple pretty areas.
Boston you're my home.
(at least for the next 18 days)

Gimme a J-O-B
Guess who is employed for the summer!?
I've got a sweet internship for the summer. I know "Internship?" you say "But Cheryl, chica, you are graduating!" Yes yes I KNOW, graduating in 19 days. I try to avoid it but yes I know, I am graduating.
Here's the deal though, Fleishman-Hillard, which is an excellent agency, doesn't hire entry-level people unless you go through their internship program first. Thus making this internship key in getting a real person full time job there.
Anyways, I'm going to be at their Austin office starting in June. Hurray for employment!!

The Last Dance
DDD Formal this past weekend was outstanding. Cute dress, great friends, swell music, dinner at a bar where everyone stared at us in our formal dresses, post party back at Ben's even though he didn't go to formal.
However, besides being a rockin' good time, it also started to make us all realize that it really is the "last dance," and we don't mean the last formal. Formal is an end of the year thing obviously so having it means that shoot, the end of the academic year is actually here.
On top of that, Val, Kristin, AJ and I had already discussed that it was the last weekend we are all in Boston together. We are all here for graduation but so are all of our families. And we love them it will just be different thats all. But this end of an era, if you'll amuse me and let me call it that, meant that naturally there was no time to sleep. Sleep is for the weak! (or the very tired.)
And after formal, as in on Sunday, we had senior rec. And this time, I was one of the seniors. Fortunately or unfortunately, AJ and I were so distracted by the heat in the room that we paid almost no attention to some of the things that could have been sad. We were too distracted by the possibility of fainting.
Now its May 1, and we're down to 19 days til graduation. I'm excited to relocate to Austin; decorate my new place, drive my new car, live with little brother, etc. I am not so excited about leaving my friends. AJ refuses to let me speak about it. It is forbidden. Which I like. I'm pleased to know that she's as distraught over it as I am.
But, deep breath, its all going to be OK. I'll see everyone at Bonnaroo in June. We'll all talk all the time (specially AJ and I). Maybe go on a cruise with the girls in January so we can get into trouble over the open waters, a task we have yet to tackle.
Besides, people have been graduating college for years and moving away from their friends. They've all been ok. Right?
